Here's a brief rundown on some of area sporting events just around the corner.
* * * * *
The District 2-6A boys' basketball tournament opens Wednesday at the homes of the top four seeds, with all games set for 7 p.m.
The DeLand Bulldogs will be hosting the Deltona Wolves. The Daytona Beach Mainland Bucs will be at home with the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas. Daytona Beach Seabreeze will entertain at home with the Pine Ridge Panthers, while Spruce Creek will be awaiting Flagler Palm Coast.
The winners advance to the home of the highest seed at 7 p.m. Friday, with these two victors meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday at 7 p.m. with the highest seed hosting.
A DeLand victory Wednesday will find the Bulldogs either playing at Spruce Creek Friday or hosting FPC.

PIERSON — Big doings for the Taylor High School Wildcat soccer team, as Tuesday at 7 p.m. they will be hosting the Maitland Orangewood Rams on Swanson Field in the Class 2A boys' soccer regional semifinals tournament game, as 16 teams remain in the field battling for the Florida state championship.
All signs point to another outstanding match between these two teams. In regular-season play, they settled for a scoreless tie, while in the district championship, the ’Cats earned a 1-0 overtime win.
The other 13 teams are Port St. Joe, Santa Rosa Beach South Walton, Maclay, Gainesville St. Francis, Tampa Prep, Largo Indian Rocks Christian, Vero Beach St. Edward's, Melbourne Florida Air, Lakeland Christian, Delray Beach American Heritage, Coral Springs Christian, North Miami Beach Hillel and Miami Westminster Christian.
The regional finals are ticketed for Friday, with the winners headed to the Final Four at the University of Tampa Feb. 18-19.
