Here's a male Muscovy duck at Earl Brown Park in DeLand this past September. These red-warty-faced, stocky ducks are 28 inches long, and have a 48-inch wingspan. Females weigh about 3 pounds, and males are about 7 pounds. Each Muscovy duck has different feather patterns — usually black and white, with a few decorative colors. Originally from South America, these birds traveled north to Central America, Mexico and now the United States. Muscovy ducks used to be called Musco ducks since they ate so many mosquitoes.
