It was a tough night on the road Friday for the Lighthouse Christian Crusaders, as the hosting Florida Air Falcons outmanned their guests, who dressed out only 12 players, in a 43-12 encounter in Melbourne.
The Falcons scored all their points in the first half, while the Crusaders found the end zone in the first and fourth quarters. FFA improved to 6-1 on the year, while the young Crusaders are 0-6.
Junior quarterback Sabari Bellamy fired a pair of touchdown passes for the Crusaders, connecting with junior KeShawn James for a yard in the first quarter, and then finding junior Stevie'on Denton for 22 yards in the final stanza. The clock was running in the second half because of the mercy rule.
The defense of the Falcons limited the Crusaders to 37 yards rushing and 64 passing, as Denton accounted for 48 of those with three catches. Coach Fred Hinson said he was proud of his players for battling hard from start to finish, although being heavily outmanned.
The Crusaders will be off to Vero Beach Friday to face St. Edward's Academy.
