We’ve reached the midway point of the 2009 high-school-football season for most teams, with still many showdown clashes lying ahead.
The DeLand Bulldogs carried their unbeaten four-game streak to Sanford Friday night to do battle with the defending state Class 6A champion Seminole gridders.
The ’Dogs now have three straight home games, with a special tag for each. First up will be the 2009 Homecoming activities Friday, with the Pine Ridge Panthers in town.
Also on tap for Oct. 16 will be the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas coming here for the Community Night game. Rounding out the three-game home run will be the Battle of the Bone set for Oct. 23, when the Deltona Wolves will be the opponent.
The final two regular-season games will be on the road. The game Oct. 29, a Thursday, goes at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Brantley, while Nov. 6, the ’Dogs will trek to Daytona Beach to tangle with the Mainland Bucs.
Other teams
In Pierson, the Taylor Wildcats were staging their 2009 Homecoming activities with the St. Joseph’s Academy Flashes from St. Augustine in town.
The ’Cats will reach the midway point in their schedule Friday night, when the Interlachen Rams invade Swanson Field for the 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Deltona Wolves were hosting the Lake Mary Rams Friday night, but this week they’ll be enjoying an open date, as they prepare to host the free-scoring Daytona Beach Seabreeze Sandcrabs at 7 p.m. Oct. 16.
The Pine Ridge Panthers were playing at Daytona Beach Seabreeze on Thursday night, and then they have to prepare quickly for the DeLand Bulldogs on Friday, with a 7 p.m. kickoff in Spec Martin Memorial Stadium for 2009 DHS Homecoming.
The Deltona Trinity Christian Eagles were on the road Friday night visiting the Crescent City Raiders, and this week they’ll be boarding the bus again, heading east to take on the state-ranked Warner Christian Eagles in South Daytona. They’ll be at home Oct. 16 to face Orangewood Christian.
The Lighthouse Christian Crusaders were paired with the same Warner Christian Eagles on Friday night, and doubtless, they’ll be enjoying this week’s open date. It will be off to Florida Air Academy Oct. 16 for the Crusader gridders.
