Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial is celebrating 15 years in Orange City, and it’s throwing one heck of a birthday party Thursday, Sept. 10.
Administrative Director of Marketing and Public Relations Debi McNabb talked about the daylong celebration and block party.
“It’s an opportunity for the hospital to celebrate with the community we serve,” she said.
The party starts at 7 a.m. with a flag ceremony at the hospital, 1061 Medical Center Drive in Orange City. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093 honor guard will perform the ceremony.
The flag used will have flown over the U.S. Capitol, and when the flag is lowered, at 7 p.m., it will be presented to Randy Marshall in honor of his parents, who donated the land for the hospital in Orange City.
At 8 a.m., 100 people will get free diabetes screenings.
“We’ll have nurses and medical staff on-site,” McNabb said. “You’ll get the results right then. The screening will be for the first 100 people who register online.”
Visit www.fhfishmemorial.org to register for a screening.
Following the diabetes screening will be a ground blessing for the Dianne Rodgers Swann Memorial Chapel.
“Which will be built in the memory of Dianne Swann, who worked here, and who died here,” McNabb said.
Afternoon events will be at West Volusia Towne Center, at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Harley Strickland Boulevard in Orange City.
The party will feature 15-cent refreshments, fun activities for children, health exhibits, live music, and an outdoor screening of the Fish Memorial documentary.
In addition to the events, there will be drawings for gifts every half-hour, from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The theme of the day’s activities is based on the philosophy of CREATION health, an acronym that stands for Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition.
McNabb said the CREATION umbrella covers all the aspects of Florida Health programs. From faith, to positive attitudes, to exercise and good eating choices, these pieces of the CREATION puzzle help — not only in preventive measures, but in recovery.
“CREATION health will help if you’re dealing with cancer or emphysema,” she said.
It’s all about making lives better, and maybe even longer.
“Helping our neighbors live to a healthy 100,” McNabb said. “Not only to live to be 100, but to live well.”
The anniversary event is free and open to the public. Visit www.fhfishmemorial.org to register for the diabetes screening.
