Registration is open for the 2009 Charity Fishing Tournament on Sept. 19 at Riverside Park in New Smyrna Beach, with daylong activities.
This is an onshore fishing tournament and children's fundraiser combined, and some 320 fishermen participated in last year's event.
Sheriff Ben Johnson's Battle of the Badges event will be in its third year, and has proved to be very popular. There will be midway games, a fishing clinic for children, a boat show, local vendors and a food court.
An after-party gathering will follow at Gilly's Pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach for awards and live music. All proceeds are ticketed for the Sheriffs Youth Ranches.
The entry fee for the fishing tournament is $30 for juniors and $60 for adults. There will be cash, trophies and merchandise awards in each category. Call Sandi Awad at (386) 254-4660 for more details.
