The DeLand American Legion Post 6 Sixers defeated Jacksonville Post 250 twice on the road over the weekend, to win the Northern Area championship, and earn a berth in the 2009 state tournament hosted by Fort Pierce.
The Sixers departed Wednesday morning with a banquet to open the double-elimination action that evening.
Four games are scheduled for Thursday; however, at this writing, not all the tournament representatives have been announced.
Sanford Post 53 will begin begin play at 9:30 a.m., while Bradenton will take to the field at 12:30 p.m.
The Sixers will see their initial action at 3:30 p.m., when they square off against Boynton Beach. The 7 p.m. nightcap will feature the hosting Fort Pierce team.
Friday will be packed with six games. An opening win for DeLand will mean a second game Friday at 12:30 p.m., while a loss would also send the Sixers back into action at 12:30 p.m., but on an auxiliary field.
The tournament is scheduled to be decided with a 10 a.m. game Sunday; however, should the team from the losers' bracket win, a second game will be necessary.
The winner at Fort Pierce will earn a berth in the Southeast regional tournament, with that victor punching a ticket to the 2009 American Legion World Series.
