The DeLand Fire Department responded to a crash this morning that sent one motorist to the hospital
Deputy Fire Chief Mark Harper said a Ford Escape was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer at 661 N. Spring Garden Ave. (the truck route) on DeLand's west side. The crash occurred about 10 a.m.
The silver-colored vehicle, severely dented in the rear, ended up upside-down on the Citrus Square sign, which splintered from the impact.
The driver of the Escape was rushed to the hospital by EVAC ambulance.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, the Fire Department said, but there was front-end damage to his rig.
The DeLand Police Department also responded.
The identities of the drivers and the condition of the injured driver were not immediately available.
