Orlando-based filmmaker Michael Capitelli and a film crew were in West Volusia recently shooting a music video at Hunter's Restaurant in Downtown DeLand. The video features brothers Roberto and Nathaniel Aguilar, who make up the popular musical duo Dish.
The diner's owner, Nancy Hunter, told The Beacon about the project, and arts columnist Jeff Shepherd covered the subject in his Ad-Libbing column published in the print edition published May 28.
Here, Capitelli talks about the music video:
What is the title of the video?
The title of the video is "Cold Is," based off the track title on Dish's latest album, Ma Raison De Vivre Ton Amour.
How will the video be distributed?
The video is primarily to help promote the album, and we're looking to distribute both online and for broadcast.
How did you come to be associated with Dish?
I met Dish a few months ago out at The Social [an Orlando nightclub], when I was recording for another artist. I try to get out and see as much local music as possible, and most come on stage play their set, and move on. However, there are a few bands whose energy just captures you. Dish is one of those bands.
I think they have a great sound and an incredible dynamic for a two-piece act. When I heard the track "Cold Is" a few months later, I thought it would make for a great video, so I called up Roberto, told him about my idea, and set it all up.
What is the scenario or story line of the video?
The story line for the video is that Roberto and Nathaniel are both working in a diner, but they hate the jobs miserably. Through the process, Nate begins to build his drum kit from things he finds around the kitchen, and that's how the band is formed.
It's not the real story about the formation of the band, but since this is Dish's first video, I thought it would be a good way for the audience to understand Dish's sound.
When will the video be finished?
Working on post now, should have the video completed in a few weeks, and hopefully you'll start to see it popping up. I really think Roberto and Nate make some powerful music, so I'm just glad to be able to help spread the word.
What/who are some of your other projects and/or clients?
Professionally, I've spent the past six years in production. I'm a graduate of NYU film, where I've worked with Showtime, Maxim Magazine, PBS, and AOL. Down here, I've produced videos for major corporate clients such as Florida Hospital, Loews Hotels, and the Golf Channel.
Currently I have a short-form documentary about one-man blues band Ben Prestage distributed through Cinelan. It's currently premiering online on Babelgum.com, and will be distributed through a few other online and theatrical outlets in the upcoming months.
My passion is music and film. I really appreciate the art of the music video. I grew up on MTV, and that's one of the reasons I decided to study filmmaking, so whenever I get the opportunity to work with some great musicians, I'll usually jump at it.
See video of the filming in DeLand.
