The Enterprise Preservation Society invites everyone to the "Goodwins' Famous Fish Fry" 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Mariner's Cove Park at Enterprise.
Why is it called "Goodwins"?
Chairwoman Verna Titus explained.
"The Goodwins, Shirley and Rick, are lifetime residents of Enterprise. They attended the 'old schoolhouse' [now home to the Enterprise Preservation Society] and were childhood sweethearts. They raised their family in Enterprise and are retired commercial fishermen," Titus said.
The fish fry is for them.
"We want to honor them as great supporters of EPS and with a lifetime-achievement award for their generous work and love for Enterprise," Titus said.
The Goodwins supply the fish and also make hush puppies and iced tea for the fish fry. This year, frog legs and gator tail will be added to the menu. Hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade salads and desserts round out the fare.
At 9 a.m., before the fry, there will be a white-elephant sale. Casual music and karaoke will be part of the day.
Mariner's Cove Park is at 1199 Enterprise-Osteen Road, off Lakeshore Drive.
Admission is free. The food will be priced inexpensively, Titus said, and proceeds will benefit the Enterprise Preservation Society.
