UPDATED 6:19 P.M.: By checking the license plate of the getaway vehicle and other leads, police said they were able to locate the suspected robber of Riverside Bank in DeLand today.
Police arrested Douglas Anthony Morin, 46, of DeLand. Morin was charged with armed robbery, but he had not been booked in the Volusia County Branch Jail at 6:15 p.m., according to the jail's booking desk.
REPORTED EARLIER: DeLand Police are investigating the second bank robbery in DeLand in the past three weeks.
Police spokesman Sgt. John Anderson spoke to The Beacon by phone from the scene at Riverside National Bank, 140 S. Spring Garden Ave. He confirmed a tip that a Riverside Bank had been robbed.
At 12:20 p.m., he had little information.
Anderson said a single suspect entered the bank, jumped over the counter, and grabbed money out of cash drawers. He then jumped back over the counter. It's unknown if the suspect was armed.
"He went right back out," Anderson said.
The robber had not been apprehended, he said.
Anderson said it did not appear this robbery was related to an armed robbery at Fifth Third Bank at 900 N. Spring Garden Ave. March 18.
In the case of the Fifth Third Bank armed robbery three weeks ago, police described a single suspect, a white male in his 20s, 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and around 135-150 pounds. The suspect wore a white baseball cap, a dark-colored T-shirt, jeans, and a teal-colored bandanna.
