St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand recently threw its support behind a program to improve the lives of people in developing countries.
Called One Family-One Net, the program was embraced by the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida as a way to participate in the Millennium Development Goals, a life-improvement initiative set by the United Nations in 2000.
Members of St. Barnabas collected $6,567.24, enough to buy 547 full-size mosquito nets. The nets will be provided by Episcopal Relief and Development to families that need them to ward off mosquitoes and the diseases they can carry.
The donations, shown in the photo accompanying this story as colored slips of paper attached to the net, were collected from a second-grade class at St. Barnabas Episcopal School, the school's student-government, several individuals and families, a Buddhist student, and a local women's sorority.
