The Enterprise Chili Festival is looking for enthusiastic chili cooks for the second annual cook-off Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Enterprise Heritage Center, at 360 Main Street in Enterprise.
Setup can begin as early as 6 a.m. Contest judges will start sampling the stews at 1 p.m., and the winner will be awarded the judges' choice trophy.
Prizes or ribbons will go to first and second runners-up, along with one for the people's favorite — so, if you can't cook, go sample some chili, available at 11 a.m., contest organizer Verna Titus urged. The people will also decide the winner of the best-decorated booth.
Sandwiches and frosty beverages will be available for purchase. Games and activities for both parents and children will be provided at no cost, including a Chinese auction.
The chili contest is open to individuals or groups. Registration costs $20 for a booth. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Enterprise Heritage Society. Chili can be cooked up with red or green chili peppers, spices and other ingredients. A minimum batch of 2 gallons is required. It should be labeled with the degree of fieriness: hot, medium or mild.
For more information, or to get an entry form, call Titus at (386) 785-3050 or (407) 324-1517, or e-mail her at titus8327@bellsouth.net.
