Collecting for children
It's that time again — to collect items for Christmas shoe boxes to be sent to children in impoverished countries around the world. Operation Christmas Child, the child of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse, spearheaded in 1993 by Franklin Graham, has delivered more than 61 million gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in about 130 countries.
Area residents are asked to collect school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement Nov. 17-24 to be packed in shoe boxes and delivered to the following three area locations: First Baptist Church of DeLand, 725 N. Woodland Blvd.; First Baptist Church of DeLeon Springs, 4995 Central Ave.; and the NPI Center, 689 Deltona Blvd. in Deltona.
For more information about the project, and step-by-step instructions on how to pack the shoe boxes, visit www.samaritanspurse.org.
