The new kid on the block in Congressional District 7, Democrat Faye Armitage, did pretty good for herself, taking 38 percent of the vote districtwide, and just less than 47 percent in Volusia County.
District 7's incumbent, U.S. Rep. John Mica, a Republican, carried a large margin, besting Armitage 216,488 votes to 134,857.
"I've been very pleased with the response from the community," Mica said. "I have my work cut out for me."
Lauded for pushing highway improvements and commuter rail for Central Florida, Mica said starting Nov. 5, he will roll up his sleeves again, as the transportation bill is due to expire in a year.
"The largest, most significant bill in history will be crafted over the next year," he said.
Mica thanked all of the wonderful people in the six Florida counties he has served for 16 years, and said he looks forward to the next term.
Armitage remained optimistic.
"Yes, we didn't make it this time," she said.
As a newcomer in the political arena, Armitage feels like she made good strides.
"We had limited funding," she said, "but, we were able to expose some things. We did quite a bit."
Armitage said she will run again, and she is confident she will be successful in the next go-round.

Sorry District 7, you've been fooled again.
