The Enterprise Preservation Society invites West Volusia to celebrate the opening of historic Green Spring Park and to support the Enterprise Heritage Center project, by attending the eighth annual Old Enterprise Festival.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, at Mariner's Cove Park, 1199 Enterprise/Osteen Road, on the Scenic Lake Monroe corridor.
This year's festival will raise funds to support the Preservation Society's Heritage Center. The Volusia County School Board donated the historic Enterprise Elementary School building to the Enterprise Preservation Society in 2004. The old school was moved to 360 W. Main St. in Enterprise, on land donated by Enterprise residents Sandra and Roy Walters.
Once it is renovated, the building will be opened to the public as a permanent display space for the extensive collection of historic letters, documents, photos, artifacts and other material owned by Enterprise Preservation Society.
With more than 30 vendors, live entertainment, old-time games, food, and a costume contest for pets, the festival will be a full day of fun.
"This is going to to be our best one ever," event chairwoman Virna Titus said.
Titus is on the Enterprise Preservation Society's board of directors, and has been involved in the festival since its beginning in 2000. This year is her first serving as the event chairwoman.
"I'm looking forward to it, " Titus said.
There will be a white-elephant sale as well as a silent auction, and those who attend can play bingo or tug of war, or sign up to eat the most pie in the least time.
Well-known singer and songwriter Rog Lee will perform his original folk songs. Also on the playbill are the Jackson Creek String Band, Just-4-Fun, Kurt Howland, Little Lissy, and the Possum Pickers. The Hispanic American Youth Group of Deltona will treat the audience to traditional and modern dance.
Enterprise Preservation Society's historian Kevin Finn will also be available to answer questions and discuss the future of the Heritage Center.
