Under $500 a year and you are complaining. That is laughable. I pay over $2,200 to a City for a single lot down south. When I lived there I paid over $550 a month to the same city for local taxes, water that I was forced to buy, a wastewater system I was forced to use, and trash pickup. To top it off, if I watered my lawn I was charged a wastewater fee for every gallon of water I used. I would think that you would be pleased with your local government here, we are. We have so many nice amenities for such a small town and the roads are not in bad shape and our taxes are low in comparison to other areas. Let us do some math here. You pay under $500 per year to Lake Helen. That means that you pay under $1.35 a day. Let us look at something else. Last I heard it cost about $2.4 million to pave one mile of a two lane rural road with a five inch shoulder in Florida. It currently cost about $485,000 for resurfacing of one mile of a two lane rural road with a five inch shoulder in Florida. At $500 per year it would take 4,800 years for your taxes to pay for one mile of a new road and 970 years for your taxes to pay for one mile of road resurfacing. If anyone should be complaining it should be my wife and I, we pay four times what you are paying. We didn't come here to cause grief for others. We appreciated what the forefathers of Lake Helen had created and we liked the fact that there was local government rule. Stand down my friend, you have no room to complain. For now I must take my wife to dinner, I hope that you will see the light my friend.
