I find it very amusing of some of the comments about pensions & firefighters in the comments section, even though this article has nothing to do with either. I would suggest to you pension bashers who are against any defined benefit pension why don’t you go & look at all the pension plans of the past 30 years & look & see which plans actually kept people off of the government teet… I can assure you it isn’t those with just a BS 401K type pension which was actually designed to act as a supplement to a person’s actual defined benefit retirement. So I can’t bash anybody for putting 5-15% depending on what is recommended of their pay towards their retirement in a defined benefit plan, whereas you people with just 401k type pensions put only around 5% of their pay into it. It’s no wonder your complaining about the hit you took when the market crashed even though those people in the defined benefit plan took just as much of a hit, but they steadily continued to put their 5-15% of pay into their retirement plan why??? Because a defined benefits retirement system works for everyone. As for bashing the firefighters or police officers for one reason or another all’s I can say is really??? They all do a job most people wouldn’t or couldn’t do in some way or another. So instead of bashing them why don’t we all say thank you for your dedication. As for blaming the unions for anything that’s just plain ridiculous, the state of Florida has collective bargaining rights yet it is a right to work state do you know what that constitutes beggar’s rights here in Florida & they can’t strike. So I would say take your union bashing ways back to Wisconsin where they will be welcomed with open arms. In closing I suggest you pension, firefighter & police bashers do a lot more research on your own and do not always rely on everything you hear on MSNBC, CNN or FOX (FAUX) news.
