I wish everyone could have grown up in Deland in the 50's and 60's. Life was so easy back then. For 50 cents you could swim all day at the Boulevard Motel pool and Isleys pool by the old skating rink. The Dreka threatre was a cool place too then they turned it into Pennys where you could go downstairs and watch the money from purchases by vacuumed up to the main floor in a tube by a shoot. And everyone knew everyone else. We would go to sleep at night watching the green and white search light from the airport revolve around and around. Ah the thrill of the military convoys coming in 24 hours a day staying at the airport on their way down south during the cuban crisis. Sure do miss those days.
