In lieu of eliminating sports, the Volusia County School Board began a "pay to play" fee for participation in athletics. Margaret Smith sent a letter to parents saying.. and I quote "Due to the ongoing budget shortfall, Volusia County Schools has implemented a Pay-to-Participate procedure for involvement in all interscholastics".
"A per-student payment of $75.00 is required for the first sport and an additional $25.00 will be required for participation in other sports. The Pay-to-Participate total will not exceed $100.00 per student".
They are playing a high stakes shell game with our money.
This is a School Board still stinging from the defeat of a tax hike, and a School Board that feels a sense of entitlement with no accountability, twisting in the wind.
