I have been reading the blogs regarding this article and am getting really sick. I have lived in DeBary for 49 years and always thought DeBary was a fine town. The council members need to stop talking about each other in negative ways and get along. Please don't make me sorry for continuing to live in this nice, quiet town where I chose to raise my children and grow old. When my children were young our town was yearning for a nice park. We didn't have many children in DeBary and one or two parks would have been suffice but now that our population has grown we need more for our children. I remember growing up in DeBary which was mostly elderly. The youth were not even allowed to use the community center on Shell Road. There were no programs for us at all. We had to go to Deltona for Teen Club. I don't necessarily agree with everything that is being done but have heard no alternatives. I believe "the Gang of Four" as you are referring to want better for our children and they are trying their best. When I was younger I was very active in the community; the Jaycees sponsored egg hunts, the Christmas Parade, the Haunted House, etc. After the Jaycees disbanded there wasn't much done for the youth except what the Fire Dept tried to do. Chris Carson remembers how it was growing up in this sleepy little town with not many activities for the children and seems to want change for the many young families who have moved here. I am not familiar with most of the recent council members. I know Danny Hunt grew up here and he remembers. The Gateway Center is a wonderful cultural arts building for our community, the ballfields, the parks, wow, we have come a long way. Who are these people who are complaining about the cultural arts bldg, the parks, the splash pad? Do you not have young children who can benefit from the enjoyment of a new park? Let us STOP THE BICKERING and work together to make this the community anyone would be PROUD to call home. And please stop making us the laughing stock of Central Florida. Mayor Garcia and the Council need to work together as a TEAM with compromise and SUPPORT from the citizens of DeBary. If you don't like it, MOVE. There are plenty of towns who would love your constant controversy.
Are you sure this is what you would like to do?
