A Lot To Be Learned Here | posted Aug 22, 2012 - 6:46:17pm
1. See if these so called not for profit special interest groups, that our tax and spend County Council loves to kiss up to, would just leave well enough alone someone in the private sector will buy up historic properties and restore them at NO cost to the tax payers. There are historic properties ALL OVER Volusia County that have been purchased and restored with PRIVATE funds and not tax dollars. Millions of our tax dollars have been wasted on the Athens Theater, the forever unfinished Dutton House, and several others.

2. Appears the Strawn family is not very well connected and that they have not been kissing the rear ends of the local politicians. If they would have only supported a few more campaigns $$$ maybe they would have gotten their permits to destroy those buildings. Look at what Stetson got approved to destroy. I know there is a difference in that the Stover Theater was a City of DeLand issue and the Strawn's issue was with the County. But you will find that the County's and the City's politicians are peas in the same pod.

I really hate to think that there is corruption and favoritism in Volusia County. However, from all that I have seen it is impossible for me to be in denial. If you ever think that you are going to have to ask the County Council for special permission to do something, now it the time to start kissing up ###.

Are you sure this is what you would like to do?
