Use your common sense. Do we really need 14 or more different police agencies? One for each and every city? Why not pool our collective resources into a county-wide police force. Use that buying-power to leverage against fuel and other costs for services. Local leaders could be appointed to run local offices under one department, but entire costs are born by one department instead of 14 different agencies trying to slash this or that to make sure they have enough cops on the street. Also, information sharing about crime trends or suspects becomes streamlined within one organization instead of 14 different agencies. Times are tight, and they're not getting any better. Bring to bear the collective power of the county on crime and associated costs. You'll see much more bang for your buck and a better return on your investment....Consolidation is the common sense solution for the future for Volusia County.
