Sands Theater Center has been an active part of DeLand’s cultural landscape since 1991. It was begun as the Theater Center Inc. in 1991, and comprises five performing groups: a community-theater group called the Rivertown Players; a slightly edgier professional theater company named Stage II; a school-touring entity known as the Storybook Theater Company; a civic-minded touring troupe called the Theater Center Touring Company; and on the musical side the DeLand Little Symphony.
Sands Theater Center annually offers five shows on the Cultural Arts Center main stage. There are also four plays in the Black Box theater, and three Storybook shows, so it’s never difficult to find theatrical entertainment at the Sands.
The Sands also hosts drama classes for children ages 4 1/2 to 17 throughout the school year, and a full summer-camp program for all ages.
